Besides this, the Bacchus Marsh's history holds an interesting part related to a pastoralist, Kenneth Scobie Clarke (c. 1806–79. In fact, he was one of the first white men to reach Bacchus Marsh valley. Kenneth Scobie Clarke was a manager for the renowned Great Lake Company of Van Diemen's Land. He arrived at the Port Phillip District from George Town on 25 March 1836. The township was initially known as Ballan around 1844. From 1 July 1850, the town was named Bacchus Marsh. The city has grown rapidly since the 1990s and still developing.
