History of Blacktown Several Darug tribes inhabited the region of Blacktown before the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788. With the advent of the railway, a town sprang up around the station. The Shire of Blacktown stood in 1906, and the town received electricity in 1930. In the 1960s, both the existing suburb of Blacktown and the other suburbs that sprang up around it saw a lot of suburban growth. In 1969, the hospital, courthouse and police station, library, and TAFE college were opened in the town centre, resulting in a municipal increase.
