History of Dubbo Dubbo has a long history that dates back 40,000 years + of Aboriginal heritage. John Oxley was the first explorer and surveyor who reported the area. To honour his findings, the region was named Dubbo. Later, Robert Dulhunty and Lawrence Dulhunty were the first British colonists who came to the region. In 1966, Dubbo was proclaimed as a city.
