Yanchep is an outer coastal suburb of Perth in Western Australia. It is located 56 kilometres north of the Central Business District in Perth. The suburb is part of the Local Government Area of the City of Wanneroo, and its State electorate is Butler, and the Federal division is Pearce. Yanchep is neighbouring the following suburbs: Two Rocks, Eglinton, Pinjar, and Carabooda. As of the 2016 census, the population of Yanchep was 8,868.

History of Yanchep The area on which Yanchep was built is said to have been initially inhabited by the Noongar people, an Australian tribe. It was a famous hunting site thousands of years ago. The name”Yanchep” derives from the Noongar word “Yandjip” or “Yanget”, which means bulrush reed in the native language. After the arrival of Europeans in the 1800s, they used this land for large sheep farms. In 1965, the Spudshed Supermarket chain came to the area in the form of a farm. The first houses here were built and opened to the public for purchase in 1972.
