The Ouse Blacksmith Shop was built around 1880 and was located strategically at the start of the old Victoria Valley Highway. Locals recall Ned (Nip) Farrow as being the last to work the old forge in the early 1960's. For nearly three quarters of a century it serviced the districts foundry needs for all manner of brands, cart wheel rims and sundry iron items as can be gathered from the markings on the boards - unfortunately some of which have been removed. A quote from Jack Parsons our local Electrician for years, who grew up with the Houlihans, one of the last Blacksmiths was -"what a tourist attraction it could be for Ouse if it were to be restored!" There is plenty of history packed into the old building. There is the N brand which was the Cawood brand owned by the Nicholas family for instance. The large 1836m2 block leaves plenty of room for a home which would be sheltered nicely from the westerly winds. With Tassal looking at opening another hatchery nearby this block could be a good investment.
