Overview Herons Creek is a small town located on the North Coast of New South Wales, Australia. This town is located 291 km north of Sydney and is home to 247 residents as of 2016. It is part of the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area. The North Coast railway line services the town, and there was a station in the suburb between 1917 and 1974. Herons Creek covers an area that measures 85 square kilometres.
Living in Herons Creek Herons Creek is a small township that is residential but with some light industrial estate. Its largest employer is the timber mill that Boral operates. This mill first opened in 1915 and was sold to Zinc Co in 1947. When the train station closed in 1974, the local economy also suffered. This town is not served by any public transport service except for the school buses. The nearest public transport access point by bus is in Kew and by train in Kendall. The residents that live in this suburb consist primarily of families, and the population has a median age of 43.
History of Herons Creek In September 1888, the site of the Herons Creek Cemetery was surveyed but was later revoked only to be approved in 1911. Aside from the cemetery, the Herons Creek Public School is also one of the first institutions established in the town’s history. Since the school opened in 1893, it remains open until today.
