Overview St. Lucia is a residential suburb that is part of Brisbane. It is situated on the Brisbane River and part of the University of Queensland. A census from the year 2016 showed that the suburb had a population of 10,422 people.

The place's main attraction is the University of Queensland that has an Olympic pool, tennis court, libraries, cafes, and restaurants around. History of St. Lucia St. Lucia was initially part of Indooroopilly; then, the region was eventually absorbed by Toowong. Known originally as Indooroopilly Pocket, it was renamed Toowong South for a brief while, and a portion of the area was hived off as Lang Farm. In 1882, William Alexander Wilson, a West Indian native, bought the Coldridge Plantation and renamed it "St Lucia Sugar Plantation." It was subdivided for houses in 1883, and St. Lucia was given as the name to the subdivision.
