This wonderful 165 acre (66.88 Ha) property is located in Taungurong country, within the Locksley area. 30km north-east of Seymour. The current owner of the land has been focused on protecting and enhancing the region’s depleted biodiversity. Registered on title is a Trust for Nature Conservation Covenant & landowner agreements with Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) now Department of Environment Land Water & Planning (DELWP). There is a section at the front of the property approximately 4.4 acres set aside for future domestic use. Half of the property comprises one of the landscape’s last remaining patches of remnant vegetation, which now acts as a haven for native plants and wildlife in an otherwise agricultural landscape. Now protected in perpetuity, the old red gum trees and impressive array native grasses will remain a source for seed and habitat for species endemic to the locale. The remainder of the site has been set aside for revegetation, incorporating locally native species to bolster the patch’s size, biodiversity and resilience Grassy woodlands and endangered ecotype once typical of the region. The site hosts twelve species of native grass and, following the revegetation works, now supports a diverse group of canopy, sub-canopy, and understory species. Approximately 12,400 trees have been planted, 35 large old trees protected and 95 acres of endangered EVC protected. Several paddocks divide the land with large catchment dam. Flooding cycles have been re-introduced to the ecosystem to encourage growth and regeneration. Protected Species include Mueller Daisy, Late-flower Flax-lily, Bush stone-curlew, Lace Goanna and Speckled warbler.
