History of Agnes Water The Meerooni tribe were its settlers before European settlement. In 1883, it was named after the pastoral holding that Daniel Clowes first leased, which he had taken from Agnes, a coastal schooner. However, it was lost in the area's sea. Until Daniel Clowe's demise in 1891, he remained there; his and his wife's gravestones are close to the present township. In the 1890s, the locality had seen milling, while the wide beach was popular as a venue.
