History Alberton is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Dorset in the North-east region of Tasmania. The locality is about 37 kilometres (23 mi) south-east of the town of Scottsdale. Alberton was gazetted as a locality in 1976. It is believed to have been named after Prince Albert, who visited Tasmania in the 1860s. Alberton was settled as a farming community to grow potatoes, strawberries and other vegetables, with the first school being established in 1894. The 2016 census provides a population of nil for the state suburb of Alberton.
