Alstonville was initially called “Duck Creek Mountain” after the creek that runs along the southern part of the town. It was given by the cedar cutters who worked in the suburb. In 1873, due to a conflict with another area, the town’s resident, John Perry, proposed the name Alstonville, which was also the name of his farm. Alston was the middle name of Perry’s wife.
