History of Bargara Bargara was once called Sandhills. In 1913, it was changed into Bargara, which originated from the two neighbouring localities―Barolin and Woongarra. One of the earliest structures in the area is the Sandhills Provisional School or the Bargara State School. This was built back in 1893. More establishments were developed over the years, including the Bargara Post Office, Bargara Golf Club Bargara, and Beach Plaza, among others.
