Living in Blackburn Blackburn people enjoy peaceful suburban living while being relatively near to the heritage of the large metropolis and is characterised by its lush alleys and charming 1930s brick and wood houses. Days are filled with the rush and excitement of commuters taking the train to the CBD for business and family activities to the main retail complexes located in adjacent areas. Furthermore, Blackburn has a lot of green space. The Blackburn Lake Refuge offers 30 hectares of restored wilderness, complete with a lake that draws birds, raccoons, and fishes, and is a popular bushwalking destination.

History in Blackburn The Blackburn Stream is located about 400 meters south of the settlement and is assumed to have been named after an ancient immigrant or after James Blackburn, the architect of Melbourne's Yan Yean water system. The earliest European community was named Blackburn Stream, and it was located beside the creek. The 1880s witnessed a surge in growth, fueled in part by the railroad and heavily encouraged by subdividers. The Freehold Banking and Finance Corporation was the most productive, acquiring thirty local farmers and laying out a pattern community distinguished by the triangle street plan south of the train station.
