History of Blackmans Bay The name Blackmans Bay was given after James Blackman, who inhabited the land there in 1820, and another "Blackmans Bay" near Dunalley was also named in the year 1642 due to the presence of black men. The shopping centre is named Bayview, has a supermarket, doctors surgery, other stores, and doctor surgery. This is a famous spot for fishing, even though snags are a significant issue due to seaweeds and the rock ledges beneath the water.
