History of Bloomsbury The Mackay Regional Council operates a fortnight mobile library near the school at the Bruce Highway. The Bloomsbury State school was opened in 1927. Additionally, a postal receiving office in 1896 turned into the local post office in 1909. However, it was closed in 1916. Again, a second postal receiving office opened in 1925 and was converted to a post office in 1926. It too was closed in 1993. The state school attracts students from Bloomsbury and the surrounding Midge Point localities.
