Overview Boolarra is a small suburb located within the City of Latrobe local government area in Victoria, Australia. Geographically, it is located within the Latrobe Valley and at one end of the Grand Ridge Rail Trail. It is situated 158 km southeast of Melbourne and 30 km from Morwell. Boolarra is bordered by the suburbs of Narracan, Hernes Oak, Morwell, Churchill, Boolarra South, Yinnar, and Mirboo North.

History of Boolarra The town of Boolarra was first settled in 1878 and then was quickly taken up after the railway line was built in the late 19th century. The first settlers relied on timber and mixed farming as their source of livelihood. The name of the suburb is based on an Aboriginal expression that means “plentiful”.
