History Boulder is a suburb in the Western Australian Goldfields, 595 kilometres east of Perth and bordering onto the city of Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Goldfields region. The town of Boulder is situated in the middle of a desert on the edge of the Great Victoria Desert. The area was settled as a mining town in 1894 and now has a population of more than 1000 people. In 1885, gold was discovered in Boulder. The first gold was found by a man named James Booth who found a few small flakes of gold at a site called Thomas' Find. Other prospectors soon followed and the population of Boulder began to grow. In 1889, the first mine was opened which caused an influx of labourers to the town. In 1905, Boulder's population peaked at 1,500 people. In 1894, Boulder was settled as a mining town and now has a population of more than 1000 people.In 1895, a company from Kalgoorlie bought over the mines and started extracting large amounts of ore from underground mines. In 1911, there were four gold mines in operation in Boulder.
