History of Braddon The construction of Braddon began in 1921, and it was gazetted as a town in September 1928. It was named in honour of Sir Edward Braddon, a Legislator, Federalist, and one of the Founders of the Constitution. The names of Braddon streets originate from Aboriginal words. In the 1920s, Braddon saw the first light-industrial area in Canberra and became the centre of automotive trades. However, the site has now been redeveloped into an entertainment and residential precinct.
