History of Branxholm The Branxholm used to serve as a branch railway line that extended to many areas in Australia. By 1978, when the last passenger trains closed down in Tasmania, Branxholm’s railway was still open. The railway to Branxholm closed in April 1992. The first settler in the area was James Reid Scott, who named it after a small village in Scotland. This used to be a shantytown until the discovery of tin in 1873, which led to the urbanisation of the area. By 1877, the population was already at around 300 people.
