Overview Bright is a suburb in the northeastern region of Victoria. It is situated 319 metres above sea level and is on the southeast end of the Ovens Valley. The town has an oceanic climate and has four distinct seasons. As of the 2016 census, Bright is home to 2,406 residents.

Living in Bright Bright is rich in cultural heritage and is a popular base for exploring the Alpine National Park. It is also a starting point for the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, where there are hiking and mountain biking paths. History of Bright The first explorations in the area took place in 1824, headed by Hamilton Hume and William Hovell, who named it Ovens River. In 1861, the town was known as Morse’s Creek after F.H. Morse. Later on, it was renamed Bright in honour of John Bright, a British politician and one of the greatest orators of his time.

The area also experienced an influx of miners during the Victorian gold rush in the mid 19 century.
