Overview Buxton is a small rural township located on the banks of Burrum River in Bundaberg Region, Queensland. It is roughly 20 kilometres upstream from Burrum Heads and Walkers Point on the Bruce Highway. Based on the 2016 census data, it has a total population of 7,145 inhabitants.
Living in Buxton Buxton has some of the best waterways for fishing, crabbing, and prawning in Queensland. The place is divided into two areas, the inland where the residential area is located and the area close to waterways or the river Isis. The waterways have a lovely tropical surrounding where people can go walking, camping, canoeing, and picnicking as picnic and barbecue tables. Several water activities like boating can also be done here, where different types of fish and other water creatures can be seen. The town has a post office, general store, boat ramp, restaurants, cafes, local shops, and transfer stations. Its residential area is quiet with many trees around, and it is rich in wildlife. Locals can visit Childers, 20 minutes away from Buxton, for more amenities such as schools, hospitals, and shopping centres.
History of Buxton Originally, Buxton was known as 'Buxtonville.' In 1881, Henry Smith purchased a parcel of land known as piece 793, Parish Isis, County Cook, in the Bundaberg district. Initially, it was planned to be a river port with customs and quarantine facilities, but the project was never completed.
