Overview Cabarita is a bayside suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. As per the 2016 population census, there were 1,957 people in the area.

History of Cabarita Cabarita is an Aboriginal word that means 'by the water', and it justifies the suburb's location. In 1795, a private soldier in the NSW Corps, David Anderson, was granted land in the area. In 1856, a place of Cabarita Point was reserved for public recreation and further expanded in 1880. Earlier, the area of Cabarita had swampland and heavy industry, which was replaced by housing developments.
