History of Camden Park Camden Park was named after John Macarthur’s estate Camden Park. The northern part of Camden Park developed as an extension of the Camden South suburb. However, most of the suburb is farmland in Wollondilly Shire. Camden South was initially inhabited by the Muringong and the Gandangara people of the Southern Highlands. The settlement started when wool pioneer John Macarthur was granted 5,000 acres at Cowpastures, which is now Camden. The land, once cleared, was used for farming for over 200 years.
