History of Capella The history of Capella was that it was founded on traditional Wangan land. It was discovered back in the 1860s by the graziers influenced by the good reports of Ludwig Leichhardt. The town of Capella got its name from Capella Creek. It was, in turn, named after the star Capella. During its discovery, it was the creek that was discovered first, followed by the discovery of the creek in the area. The provisional school was opened in Capella on August 29 1883, and this came with an enrollment of only 28 children.
