Overview Caravonica is a suburb of Cairns in the Cairns Region, Queensland, Australia. It is located approximately 11 km from the Cairns City centre. According to the 2016 population census, 1,989 people resided in the suburb.
Living in Caravonica Caravonica is a beautiful suburb as it lies in the foothills of the Queensland tropical rain forests. It shares the boundary with many unique locations, such as the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park in the North and Kamerunga in the South. It has Lake Placid as its neighbouring locality, formerly known as Barron Waters. The lake was named after a natural pond in the Barren River. History of Caravonica Caravonica is situated in the Djabugay traditional Aboriginal country. The original occupants of the region were the Tirrganydji people. The suburb's name came from the town of Caravonica in Italy, which was named after the hometown of Dr David Thomatis. The suburb was originally part of the Shire of Mulgrave and later became a part of the City of Cairn’s local government areas. The development started with the establishment of Kamerunga State School in 1913, but it was damaged in a cyclone in February 1927.
