Carnes Hill has three parks, two reserves and four schools. Carnes Hill was originally planned as a satellite suburb of Wollongong, but the coal mine closed and the plans were abandoned. This resulted in Carnes Hill becoming an outer-southern suburb of Sydney. Carnes Hill is located 38 kilometres southwest of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Liverpool and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.
