Overview Chapel Hill is a suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. According to the 2016 population census, 10,113 people were residing in the suburb. History of Chapel Hill Chapel Hill derived its name from the Primitive Methodist chapel built in 1874 on the top of the hill. The suburb was known as Indooroopilly, the ground for the Primitive Methodist Church that was turned down in a ceremony in 1873. In 1955, the present-day Church was built, and as it is located on a high point, the suburb is also called Chapel Hill. In 1922, Queensland Governor Mathew Nathan opened the Industrial School for Boys, and the Salvation Army operated it. The main motive behind this school was to take care of orphaned and abandoned boys.
