The Warrego Highway goes through the suburb and stretches to Boonarga on the east and Baking Board on the west. Its surrounding neighbourhoods include Greenswamp, Hopeland, and Red Hill. Moreover, the area is often called the Melon Capital of Australia.

History of Chinchilla Chinchilla was formed out of an Aboriginal term―tintinchilla or jinchilla―which means cypress pine. The name was said to be recorded by Ludwig Leichhardt, a naturalist and explorer in the area. In 1877, the town was initially established. And a year after, the Chinchilla Post Office was opened.
