Overview Chipping Norton is a suburb of Sydney that is located 27 kilometres southwest of the Sydney central business district in the state of New South Wales, Australia. As per the 2016 census, the population of the suburb was recorded as 9,001 people.
Living in Chipping Norton Chipping Norton offers a peaceful lifestyle and has many walking tracks, lakes, and green spaces. The two main recreational centres of the suburb are Chipping Norton Lake and Lake Moore.
The suburb has four schools: Chipping Norton Public School, Moorebank High School, Newbridge Heights Public School, and St Joseph’s Catholic School. The suburb developed with the wool trade and has some historic listed buildings. There is also a good selection of centuries-old pubs, shops, and eateries in the area.
History of Chipping Norton The history of Chipping Norton says that there are two traditional custodians of the Chipping Norton Lake area. One was the Tharawal people who inhabited the southern side of the Georges River and another one was the Darug people who lived in the north and west of the River. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the suburb was a farming area. It was named after an old English village by William Alexander Long. Another prominent white settler in the area was Thomas Moore. He was granted waterfront land that is currently part of the park. In the 1880s, the Homestead within the reserve grounds was built and Chipping Norton Post Office opened in 1920 but closed in 1974.
