History In 1846, after traveling around Australia looking for mineral deposits, John Christie claimed a section of land at Christies Beach for himself. There he built a home and called it "The Bush" after his family's Scottish origins. The Bush became the headquarters of the Christie family and they cultivated an estate that grew to about 200 acres (0.8 km2). Christies Beach is now a coastal suburb of Adelaide not far from Adelaide’s CBD. It was first settled by Europeans in 1850 and then subdivided into farmland. In 1968, a strip of land along the beachfront was purchased by a group of investors and subdivided into a series of sand dunes. The area is scenic and hence popular with photographers as Witton Bluff provides a natural vantage point over the entire suburb and beyond.Christies Beach boasts a unique commercial strip running the entire length of Beach Road and is identified as a primary coastal node in the Adelaide Metropolitan area (Planning SA, 2007). Christies Beach also features one of the few remaining main road classified Esplanades in Metropolitan Adelaide, providing direct access to the beach on Gulf St Vincent.Christies Beach has its own postcode of 5165, and is adjacent to the suburbs of Christie Downs and Noarlunga Centre to the east.
