Overview Cobram is a suburb in the Australian State of Victoria and is located on the Murray River, forming the border between New South Wales and Victoria. History of Cobram It is believed that the Aboriginal people inhabited Cobram before European settlement. They lived in the area bound by the Murray River from Tocumwal to the east of Cobram and south to Broken Creek. The Bangerang is the tribe that is believed to have occupied the region, and they used to live in a horde or smaller groups of about 100 persons. In 1838, Charles Sturt first passed through the northern bank of the Murray River while going to South Australia. By the 1860s, the area was referred to as Yarroweyah.
