History Coonamble, New South Wales is a small rural town in the state of New South Wales. This town was first settled by Europeans in 1838 and it's population has grown from 100 to over 10,000 people. The town has an agricultural-based economy and people here primarily live off their own produce such as cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry. In 1827, a convict settlement was established in Coonamble after the New South Wales Government offered a reward for anyone who could find a safe route from Sydney to the Hunter Valley. The town was named after a nearby creek and the Aboriginal word "koonambora" meaning place of water.
