As of the 2016 census, Cooranbong is home to 5,449 residents.
Living in Cooranbong Cooranbong has a closely-knit community where almost every resident knows each other. Most amenities in the town is found on its southeastern side, where Avondale University is located. The facility is a tertiary education institution run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
On the town’s west is the Cooranbong Public School, the Cooranbong Equestrian Park and a cafe.
North of Cooranbong in the Watagans National Park, a serene rainforest with trailers, campsites, and important aboriginal sites. The Awaba Mountain Bike Park is also located here.
History of Cooranbong The original owners of the area are the Awabakal indigenous group.
One of the first settlers in Cooranbong was Lt. Percy Simpson, who was granted 2,000-acre land. Here, Simpson raised cattle and built a homestead along Dora Creek. Simpson only stayed in the area for a couple of years and made one of the convicts assigned to him, Moses Carroll, a stockman of the estate. Carroll later own became the town’s police constable.
During the 18800s, timber cutting was an essential industry in the town. Also, during this time, a school, police station, post office, courthouse and an Anglican church were built.
