Overview Coronet Bay is a suburb in Victoria, Australia, which lies on the eastern shore of Western Port Bay. It is located 114 km south-east of Melbourne via the M1 and the Bass Highway. As per the 2016 population census, 791 residents were living in the town.

History of Coronet Bay In 1826, a settlement was founded just to the east of the present town from Sydney. The settlement was founded while responding to a concern for French territorial claims. A small group of the military called Fort Dumaresq was established near the present-day site of Rhyll. However, there wasn’t enough fresh water, and that’s why the outpost was moved to Corinella. At that time, Corinella was called Settlement Point. In the late 1970s, the Victoria Archaeological Survey put Corinella under extensive archaeological investigations. It was believed to be an important dig from Victoria’s history and European settlement point of view.
