Overview The suburb of Cranebrook in Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales, is within Penrith's government area. It is 50 kilometres west-northwest of Sydney's city centre and 65.5 kilometres northwest of Sydney.

Cranebrook covers an area of 15.03 square kilometres and has a population of 15,758 people as per the 2016 census.

Living in Cranebrook Given the close access, many residents of Cranebrook love to go to the Blue Mountains and the Lakes and Nepean River. This suburb is both an urban and rural area with properties spreading through the Northern fringe. Residential homes occupy most of the area.

The inclusion of the once separate suburb, the Mt. Pleasant Housing Estate, to the suburb of Cranebrook made it the most socio-economically diverse suburb in Greater Western Sydney.

Cranebrook has three public schools, a public high school, the Corpus Christi Catholic primary school, and the St. Paul's Grammar school. Also in Cranebrook are the Cranebrook Park Off-Leash Dog Park, Glenmore Park, and Mountain View Reserve.

Cranebrook is a 5 to 10-minute drive to the city centre of Penrith. It is also a 10-15-minute drive to Richmond and Windsor.

History of Cranebrook Cranebrook was founded in 1804. Cranebrook derived its name from "Crane Brook Farm," the property situated in the area where water birds, lagoons, and cranes were in abundance. The property was given to James McCarthy in 1804.
