The suburb shares boundaries with Robinsons Road to the West, Foleys Road to the North, Boundary Road to the South, and the Western Ring Road to the East.

History of Derrimut Derrimut was named after a nineteenth-century Aboriginal Elder, Derrimut. The development started with the establishment of the Derrimut Post Office in 1866 that was closed in 1918. From 1964 to 1996, the suburb was home to the ‘Mount Derrimut’ field station of the University of Melbourne. The field station was aimed at agriculture. It was further used by the Victoria Western Institute that attracted students worldwide in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Sunshine Golf Club currently occupies the same site.
