History of Drouin The area of Drouin was left unsettled for a long time due to the presence of dense forest. There were some pastoral runs in the area, but there was still little to no development. Upon the construction of the Gippsland railway line, workers’ camps were established near the site of Drouin today. By the 1880s, several sawmills began operating in the area and then followed by dairy farming. By the year 1904, the town of Drouin had 700 residents.
