History of Dugandan The name is an aboriginal word, meaning mountain spur place. Initially, the name was used to run the extensive pastoral established in 1884, covering a larger area than the current region between Mount Joyce and Boonah. In 1887, a sawmill was established under the partnership of Hancock and Cossart. However, after the mill burned down in 1897, Cossart opened his mill, which became the major employer and a significant role player in the region's prosperity. In addition, there was once the Dugandan Provisional School, which was opened in 1878 (present-day Boonah).
