Overview Elliminyt is a suburb of South Western Victoria, situated 136 kilometres from Melbourne. The suburb is immediately south of Colac, while other neighbouring suburbs/localities include Colac East, Larpent, Yeo, Baronggarook West, and Barongarook.
As of the 2016 census, Elliminyt has a population of 2,936.
Living in Elliminyt The majority of Elliminyt is primarily residential, where most houses are located on the suburb’s north, near the southern border of Colac. Major amenities are also located in Colac.

History of Elliminyt Elliminyt was named after “Illiminyte”, which was a pastoral run that was taken up by Hugh Murray in 1837. It is Murray who is recognised as the founding pastoral settler or Colac.
Elliminyt used to be a farming area when it was laid out on the Colac Town Common around the late 1860s. A school and a post office opened in Colac in 1878-1879. Following the two establishments, a racecourse and golf course was established in Elliminyt.
In the 1960s, there was a growing population on the south border of Colac, which resulted in the opening of a Catholic primary school just inside Elliminyt’s border.
