This is a residential suburb located approximately 6 km from Sydney CBD. It is also bordered by its neighbouring suburbs like Newtown, Redfern, St. Peters, and Alexandria.
Living in Erskineville Before the 20th century, a considerable portion of this suburb was used primarily for industrial purposes. In 1998, it was developed for urban renewal and became known as a significant residential development area. It features an efficient public transport system that includes trams, trains, and buses, making it easy to get around. There are two schools in this suburb: a catholic school and a state school. About 75% of the entire suburb is covered within the various heritage conservation areas.
History of Erskineville The site of the current suburb is a product of an earlier subdivision plan that was established in 1846. Since Stephen MacDonald owned the land, he named the streets after the members of his family. As for the name of this suburb, it was taken after the name of the home of a Wesleyan minister, Erskine Villa.
