History of Evans Head The town is named after Lt Evans, a marine surveyor who is known to do the first marine survey of the coastline in the area. Also, the town is situated on the traditional lands of the Widje clan of the Bundjalung people. Earlier, it was a fishing village that formed the basis of the town's local economy.
