History of Fairhaven The Pole House, a local landmark built in 1978, was demolished by its owners in 2013 because they were disappointed they lost their bid to have the house listed in the Victorian Heritage Register. In 1983, Fairhaven was badly damaged in the Ash Wednesday bushfires, one of the worst fires to hit Australia. The fire damaged 3,700 buildings, and 2,545 individuals lost their homes.
