Ferntree Gully has a population of 37,458, according to the 2016 Census. The area is on the Belgrave rail track, and the journey to Flinders Street, CBD, requires between 42 and 60 minutes.

History of Ferntree Gully Ferntree Gully was initially spelled 'Fern Tree Gully' because of the picturesque gully that is now part of the same-named National Park. During the 1870s, there have been two accommodations, a postal service, and many selections on the property. Timber-gatherers were gaining access to the forest farther east, and the general community supported the construction of a school in 1880. Soon after, stores, a patisserie, butchers, and Wesleyan and Anglican cathedrals were constructed. Furthermore, Ferntree Gully had developed by the beginning of the century, thanks partly to the railway line that bypassed the former Club Hotel position. On 30 May 1889, the Borough of Fern Tree Gully was established, comprising 390 square kilometres cut off from the Berwick shire with inhabitants of 750.
