History of Foster Foster was initially called Stockyard Creek, the stream that flows through the centre of the town. Earlier, Foster was just a resting place for drovers travelling from Port Albert to Western Port. However, with the discovery of gold in the 1880s, the town evolved just from a resting place to a popular town. Further development began with the commencement of the post office that was named Stockyard Creek and later renamed Foster in 1879. In the same year when the post office was renamed, the township was established. Today, Foster is an evolving town that acts as a bridge between Wilson’s Promontory and the rest of Victoria.
