Overview Freshwater is a popular suburb of northern Sydney, and it is located 17 kilometres northeast of the Sydney Central Business District. As per the population recorded in 2016, there were 14656 residents in the suburb.

Living in Freshwater As Freshwater is the Australian home of surfing, the lifestyle of people living in the area is pretty interesting. There are many things to do in the suburb, such as McKillop Park, Freshwater Rockpool, Madigan’s at Harbors Diggers, and more. Freshwater Beach is a prominent landmark that lies between Curl Curl and Queenscliff. The Harbord Beach Hotel is another landmark in the area 200 meters from the branch and also popular with the name of ‘Harbord Hilton’. Today, a lot of people prefer living in the area due to its surfing lifestyle.

History of Freshwater Freshwater was once home to the Kuring-gai people, and there are still traces of them in indigenous Australian art. Thomas Bruin was granted 50 acres of land in the area in 1815, and the Manly Land Company subdivided it and named the property Freshwater in 1884. Freshwater Bay Post Office was established in 1909 and was renamed Freshwater in 1912. The area is now considered the home of surfing in Australia.
