Overview Galston, a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, had a population of 3,139 people (2016 census). Galston is surrounded by the suburbs of Glenorie, Berrilee, Arcadia, Middle Dural, Hornsby Heights, and Dura.
Galston is on the northern tip of Sydney and is 36 kilometres northwest of the city's central business district. The suburb is part of the Hornsby Shire local government area in the North Shore region.

History of Galston Galston was initially known as Upper Dural, and the people from the Dharug language group were the original aboriginal inhabitants of the area. In 1886, the name of the area was changed to Galston, after the town of Galston, East Ayrshire, Scotland, upon the suggestion of Alex Hutchinson.
