History Geilston Bay is a suburb of Hobart between Risdon Vale, Shag Bay, and Lindisfarne, in the City of Clarence located on the Eastern Shore of the Derwent River. Geilston Bay was originally known as 'Geilston' and was subdivided in 1834 by James Geils who owned property on the South side of Sandy Bay. It was named after Geils and the bay. The area has a sandy beach which is popular with locals and tourists alike. The beach has been awarded a four-star rating by the Australian blue flag program for its cleanliness and safety.
