History Glenelg South is a seaside suburb in the metropolitan area of Adelaide, South Australia. It was established in 1853.The Glenelg South area was previously settled in the 1830s, and was used primarily for grazing animals and growing vegetables.In 1851, a local government council created the Glenelg District Council to plan and build infrastructure in the area. The council helped provide water and electricity to the town.The Glenelg District Council also planned and built recreational areas such as the Glenelg South Baths. In 1934, the council became part of the City of Holdfast Bay, which provided better management for the town.In 1976, when Holdfast Bay merged with Glenelg, it became part of the City of Glenelg.
