History of Gol Gol Gol Gol has a rich history as Aboriginal people occupied it for an extended period. The traditional land of the Kureinji people and midden can still be seen at Drings Hill Reserve. In 1836, Thomas Mitchell, the surveyor and explorer, voyaged from Boree Station with men, boats, bullock carts, and cattle. When he arrived at the future village site, the Aboriginals told him that Gol Gol was the area next to the Murray River. They used to call it Gol Gol as it means meeting place. The development started in 1865 when a survey was initiated to determine the site for the Gol Gol township. The survey was completed in 1866, and on 15 June 1886, the area was declared as the township and notified in the Government Gazette.
