History Guildford West is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia that is located 26 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Cumberland City Council and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. Guildford West shares the postcode of 2161 with the separate suburbs of Guildford and Old Guildford. In the year 1858, Lewis Kempton and his wife settled in the area and in 1859 they were running a general store which became a post office in 1865. In that same year, the first school was established. In 1876, a school of arts was set up by William Kaye who was also responsible for the erection of the original church in 1880. In 1889, a railway station opened to serve these people who were located just outside Sydney.
